I would absolutely recommend this Mandarin Starter Pack to anyone beginning their journey into Chinese. Frances is a wonderful teacher who makes learning both effective and enjoyable. From the start, you learn how to form complete, useful sentences, which makes the language feel immediately practical. The weekly live classes are a great opportunity to practise pronunciation and build confidence. Frances' warm and encouraging teaching style creates a relaxed atmosphere, and the games she incorporates really help take away the fear of speaking. By the end of the course, you're familiar with the four tones, able to share basic information about yourself in Mandarin, and even talk a little about the weather — which feels like a fun milestone! I personally found the character lessons especially helpful for gaining a deeper understanding of the language. All in all, it's a well-structured and engaging course that has truly supported me in my Mandarin learning journey.

I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot. One of the biggest things I took away was finally getting comfortable with basic phrases — not just recognising them, but actually using them with confidence. The repetition and practice built into the lessons made a huge difference. I also loved the bonus character lessons. Learning about the historical development of the characters was fascinating. Understanding what the symbols originally referred to, or what they can be imagined to represent, really helped me remember them. It made the characters feel less abstract and much easier to recall. The course gave me the encouragement I needed to really commit to learning key phrases. I felt motivated and the structure made it easy to build momentum, and I came away with a solid foundation I can actually use. If you're thinking about joining, I think you'd get a lot out of it too — especially if you enjoy understanding the "why" behind what you're learning.

The Little Miss Mandarin course exceeded my expectations. Such a detailed and clear introduction to Mandarin. It was just like one-to-one teaching. Frances does a brilliant job and it's simply a pleasure to work through the lessons. The weekly Zoom sessions were helpful for practising the language. If you couldn't make it, there was a recording available. I can really highly recommend her course.

To start learning Mandarin, this course is second to none. Frances is a very good and thorough teacher. She pronounces absolutely clearly, has extremely good visual material (for example, the chart picturing the different tones), and structured the course well. It comes in digestible pieces, and when you keep up with it and study half an hour every day, then you will manage to speak a little Mandarin in just four weeks.

The four-week Mandarin Starter Pack course was a fantastic introduction to Mandarin for a complete beginner like me. The course structure — 15-minute videos on Monday through Wednesday and a live lesson on Thursday — let me fit the recommended daily learning into my very busy schedule. On Fridays to Sundays I used the bonus videos and worksheets on character decoding or reviewed the weekly videos. It has now been almost 4 weeks that I have been doing about 30 minutes of Mandarin per day and I feel that I have made real progress. The videos were excellent for independent learning; they included vocabulary, revision and practice tasks. The Thursday Zoom lesson was an opportunity to practise speaking and although it took me a while to get involved, I ended up loving the sessions. Frances and the other participants were very supportive — we ended up cheering each other on with emojis — and the live-lesson tasks were really fun. Quizlet was, hands down, the winner. Frances invested significant time and expertise to make the course engaging and personal. She asked for feedback and tailored the sessions accordingly, so the course felt almost bespoke. She also gave each of us a personalised Chinese name and was incredibly supportive, encouraging and patient throughout the course. I warmly recommend it.

Thanks to the clear and accessible English used throughout, it was really easy to follow the well-structured lessons. I enjoyed the course a lot. I learned how to talk about myself in easy sentences (my name, where I am from, when I was born, etc.) and also answer a few easy questions. There were extra lessons about the characters and they were super useful and interesting. I loved the games we played that helped us remember the words. Even though I had already learned some Chinese before, there is always a lot to learn and have fun with the language.

The eight-week Mandarin Beginner Level 1 course was an outstanding next step after the Starter Pack — engaging, well-structured and genuinely effective for a busy beginner. I've made real progress in a short time and look forward to continuing with Frances. The blend of videos, listening tasks and creative worksheets for independent learning, weekly group Zoom lessons and one-to-one sessions fit well into my schedule and kept me consistently practising. The videos on character were fantastic and this is a skill that I particularly enjoy developing. Quizlet tasks that Frances designed for us were invaluable for retention. The worksheets and listening activities helped reinforce what we covered in class and also served as notes on vocabulary and sentence structure. As a teacher myself, I greatly enjoyed the variety of tasks Frances created to structure our learning and I really appreciated the thought and time she put into designing high-quality material to support our progress. Across eight weeks we touched a huge variety of everyday topics (family, food and drink, money, places, time, etc.), which expanded my vocabulary every week and allowed me to form simple sentences — for example about my family members, ordering food and drinks at a restaurant, and describing where places are on a simplified map of a city. The tailored one-to-one sessions were especially effective for building my speaking and listening confidence — Frances's patient, encouraging corrections left me feeling I'd made real progress after every session. The live classes felt like a proper community — collaborative, warm and motivating. I greatly enjoyed them. Frances invests real time and care into her courses; her materials are thoughtfully designed and her teaching is patient, encouraging and highly effective. I warmly recommend this course to anyone who wants steady, practical progress in Mandarin.

If you have a clear goal with your Mandarin learning and are willing and able to dedicate 30 minutes a day, Little Miss Mandarin is the teacher for you. Her courses are very well structured, the topics presented in digestible pieces. She uses good tools to visualise the character writing, the vocabulary, and even the pronunciation. From week to week you know what and how much to expect. She is an enthusiastic teacher and repeats things as often as necessary for everyone to follow along during live lessons. She is very patient and motivating, and knows how to bring the topics across. I especially enjoyed listening to her pronunciation practice.
